John Robert Powers review by Analiese
OMG!!!my daughter just audition for jrp last Saturday and got pick....but the price is just outrageous and after reading all these complains i don't know if i even want her to do it. She love acting and singing a lot. she has so much potential and jrp knows that. I know they really want her, if they really want her i guess they have to let her in for lesser charge...

she was so excited but i have to be very careful and i don't know if i should pursued it or not.Back in the mid 80's i audition for jrp once and left, they called me and told me that i was offered an scholarship to attend jrp,i turn them down because i have to one to supported me at that time.

You taught one person several years ago who was in one film? You sound like a terrible coach. And you dont do headshots yourself, unless you want crappy headshots. You use the photographer your talent agent tells you to. Casting directors want a good headshot not something that belongs on myspace. It cracks me up those people who post thier expert opinion and it is wrong.

This very same school contacted me about acting. I was unable to go to audition call they had in my town. But they called me two days later and still offered me a spot! Without asking to meet me or see any headshots. I thought that was very weird and did not attend the first day of class.

They told me that I had to put a $400 deposit confirm a seat. I knew right there, something was definitely wrong. All they want is your money!!!!

ROBBERS!!!!!

As one who has worked with several well-known Los Angeles based talent agents, casting directors, personal managers and screenwriters, and as an Acting Coach, please know that Talent Agents do not provide Acting Classes, neither do personal management companies - they aren't allowed to. The only ones who provide acting classes are Casting Directors, Directors, Writers, Producers and Actors/Actresses and Acting Coaches who have worked legitimately in the business. JRP and ACT (out of Phoenix AZ) are scams and will do absolutely NOTHING for your career. You are better off contacting the local Film Commission for your state and identify if there are any legitimate actors/actresses and/or Casting Directors living in your area who provide classes at a fraction of the cost. I myself charge high school students $15-20.00 for a 2.5 - 3 hour class, and one student I had several years ago went to LA and is now acting in film. As for headshots, you can do them yourself. Get 5 rolls of 24-36 Exp Black & White 35mm film, have them printed onto a contact sheet, use a magnifying class and pick the top 10 shots, have them blown up into 8x10 and pick the best 2 for your headshots. Also, have your child take Drama in High School. They may not teach the way we industry professionals do, but your child will at least get a legitimate start. If your gut says no, if you even begin to question if a company is legit, check them out and if there's more than even 1 report, stay away from them!
