I'm going to be veruy blunt and straight-forward. I used to attend JRP at Chesapeake, Va in a Map Communications building. I attended for a little bit more for a month. Once I tried going to class today, the whole JRP suite was empty!!!! Nothing in it. There were no notes left on the doors or in the building. This happened right after 20+ new students joined. I'm very upset. My parents were nice enough to pay 2000+ dollars to get me enrolled, and they screwed us. Don't let this happen to you, please. Someone went all the way from Williamsburg, Va.(1-2 hour drive) to see an empty building and no modeling school.
my friend just got excited becuase JRP keeps talking bout how their so interested by her look and think she could be doing great things with them...this is a JRP in boston btw, and idk...i already told her that my friend did it and while it was not a scam...she was with them for many years without seeing much of a return--didnt get in any major shows or record deal--auditions came her way but not many and she never got them and accorindg to her JRP didnt prepare her that well. but after hearing all of this I am positive now my friend should not join.

That company and the one in New Jersey went under because the owners Gem, Angela (and possibly Quincy) weren't paying royalties to the parent company. THEY WERE EVEN SCAMMING THEMSELVES! They skipped out on over 2 months of employees salaries and paychecks (not to mention parents' money).
My advice to parents is: I have seen this company work from the inside. RUN AWAY! Everything you hear on this site is true. All the people defending JRP are EMPLOYEES attempting to salvage their public image. So if you see a message from someone with the name like "LuvsJRP" or "MySkoolizDaBest" or " SuperHappySuccessfulStudentWhoHasAlreadyPaidForCollegeWithAllTheMoneyIMadeByModeling" Know, that they are STILL trying to scam you after the scamming is already done.
Definately a scam! Went there yesterday with my son on a whim - We waited for over 1 1/2 hours with other parents and kids in a big conference room. First they make you wait for nearly 30 minutes doing nothing then they show you a glitzy PR video-30 min more or less- of all the stars that went to JRP. Mind you most of them are old-time movie stars like Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda when it was a "charm school." Then a "national representative" comes in to recount her "personal" stories of "discovering" child stars for over 40 minutes. Mostly she asks questions about biz lingo to show us all how inept we are and how much we need JRP services to teach our kids how to audition and stand and look blah blah blah...
They then send your kids in groups of three or four into a room to be "auditioned" for 5 minutes. Next you're in an office with a "director" saying your kid has a great look and personality and it will only cost $2,000 to get him a break.
If I know any thing I know this - my kid has the kind of looks and talent that people pay him for- not the other way around. If you have the extra money and time to kill, maybe JRP is your kind of agency - but if you know you or your kid has what it takes - take them somewhere else.

Well, each jrp is individually owned and operated. Therefore, as in the case of the Chesapeake office, when they decide to close the doors you are out of luck. Unless another jrp wants to let you fufill you contract there. Which is supposedly the case thats going on here. The new va beach office is taking the Chesapeake clients. I wish we had never done it. Ive seen nothing but teenage teachers that have no business teaching a class to waiting months on books that shouldve been given on the first day (we still dont have them 4 months into our contract). Its been a nightmare!

Is this something your kid wants to do?? You have to look at it like Dance or Voice lessons or even a sport or instrument.
My kid plays instruments and I don’t expect him to be in a Rock band, He just loves to play.
You can spend money any of the above and not get a return ($$$) on your investment.
With acting they may get a job. But I would not do it if you are looking to make money off your KID that is the wrong reason to do it.
Start out small and see how they like it I have 2 kids at JRP Minneapolis and THEY :LOVE IT They are all different because they are franchises and owned by different people. The JRP here is run by 2 ladies and they are great with the kids and parents and the kids in this JRP getting on TV and doing jobs.
My son has been signed with a local agent and has auditioned several times and has gotten a couple of print jobs.
We really like it, it was a risk but my kids really wanted to act and model so I tried it out and I am very Happy

We just attended an audition and at the conference center 9-9-08. They said that they were working on a new building. They want money for our kids to be with them...is this a rip off?????????

Can you post what happened at the meeting? We didnt get notified of it and now are stressing the 3 yr tuition we are out of that only started a few months ago.
Are you serious?? I have known for 15 plus years that this was a rip-off-- I can't believe people are still falling for this. I guess it is just a sign of the times--everyone wants to be famous!
FYI. I got an email saying they were under new management. Worries me. They are having a 'parent's meeting' THIS Thursday 8-28-08 @ 6:45. It is being held at Va Beach Resort Hotel on 2800 Shore Drive. It's a drive, but I'm going to find out what is going to happen with my money and to my daughter's classes. She just signed up in July and has been to only one class before they 'closed temporarily'. I suggest strongly you and your parents come to the meeting!!!!
