Apr 5, 2008 John Robert Powers complaint by Manish Chawla |
I joined JRP way back in 2001 as an instructor and at that time the 'director of photography'...who by the way had no experience of modeling or anything to do with modeling w as the acting school director. Then after a few days we found out that she ran away with about $37000. so i was asked by the executive director Alana Knowles to take charge of the school.I thought of it as a great opportunity to educate and bring about a change in an individual's life.Coming from India I have those values and i am an artist so i was sensitive to the needs of would be artists . The students loved me but the exe dir wasnt happy 'cause i was for the students . They had big big names for every department but there was no content to the study material :there wasnt much of that either. Soi submitted a full curriculum which was approved by the JRP head office but the local management wasn't ok with it because it meant actually delivering and that wasn't the goal anyways after a lot of stressful days one day suddenly I was fired and the then so called asst dir of sales told me that I was a worthless *** . i wa s very naive and fairly new to this country so i didnt pursue the matter and i went on to do my own thing .teaching students on my own and guiding them carefully thru this glamorous yet dangerous world of talent, heart brakes and cheating . I have not been paid to this day but i have been given a lot more by this universe . i am thankful .I am writing this to warn anyone who wants to join JRP ......BEWARE !!!!!and this was in san Francisco !

John Robert Powers is the best thing that my daughter could have done . She learned poise and posture and the ability to speak to people in a group. He grades went up and her face had smile for once. They taught her good attitude and disapline. San Francisco JRP was caring and even called one day when she did not make class because they were worried. My daughter just graduated from college and went to many interviews. We found out today that she just landed a pretty high level job with google. I must tell you I believe that JRP had a large part in this. Sometimes kids don't listen to their parents. They listen to someone they admire and think is cool. Most of the comments on here that put JRP down are unwarrented and hard to read because they don't make sense. Don't hesitate to enroll your child in any program of this calliber. I can tell you I will never regret it.

To the person that started this whole complaint:
Just because you had one bad experience, don't ruin it for everyone else. I am a student/model @ a JRP Agency in Maryland and Alana Knowles is my personal talent scout. She works with me and I can honestly say I have progressed and made it so far in the entertainment industry thanks to JRP and Ms. Knowles. I take classes twice a week & as far as Im concerned JRP does a great job. They offer so much and because I am about to go off to college this fall they even worked with me so I could take classes and still get my education.
In this industry all it takes is time & dedication and if you can't afford to give that up then their are other options. Life goes on...

I went to the audition here in Canada and I met with Deven Sledge. She seemed nice enough and was very suportive. Honestly, we didn't take the offer (I got chosen out of the 100 or so that did) and she was totally alright with it. We called her and she is even staying in contact with us and is going to help me and my future career. So please do stop with the complaints; they are quite childish and rude. =)

Shoot, I've met Deven Sledge. She is NOT a Talent Scout. She was the director for a brief stint in the San Mateo JRP, then went about doing other things after she vacated the job. Totally took our money and RAN! The JRP San MAteo is now filing for bankruptcy.
Screw JRP, go to a different acting school. Like community college, and just bug a few agents by yourself.

Comment for the Director of Education
You need to understand that not all JRP's are the same. I am the director for a JRP and That has not been my experience. I also was a student at JRP and it helped me in my career which is why when I decided to stop doing what I was doing I returned back to JRP. I love the kids and the parents are awesome and I am there for them to help etc.

how did brenda song get discovered? i'll tell you- she didn't through them! neither did the eldest brother from Wizards of Waverly place. He went through Kim Dawson. I did my research and went in to my call backs and confronted miss talent scout 'deven sledge' (whos name pulled up nothing on google) and when i confronted her about it she had nothing to say other than "Then why did you come?" Its a bunch of BS and i'm sorry i would rather not see kids lied to and parents jipped.
