John Robert Powers complaint
I wanted to update everyone in regards to the JRP in Reno. I contacted the corporate office in Las Vegas and was informed that they are currently in a law suit with Kim Flowers, former franchise owner of JRP Reno and Vegas. I then called her new studio and was blown off 4 times before finally one of her talent representatives "Deanna" told me that any inquiries into JRP Reno should go to Kim's Lawyer....Victor Perry @ 702-870-2400. By this time it was 7pm but I called the number anyway and got a recording to call back during business hours. The JRP corporate office told me that they have no plan's on reopening a franchise in Reno because of the damaged reputation Kim has caused here. They also told me that Kim should not have been selling the Elite or Lifetime program or telling people that they can transfer to other schools because they have not done that in years. Some franchise owner's will honor them and some won't they are not required to. I was told that the Las Vegas JRP would honor the lifetime program's but you must have your original contract in had because they do not have records like that. It was "secretly" recommended to me from JRP corporate office that I hire a lawyer to get my money back. I will be calling someone on Monday. I have also sent an email to the BBB in Vegas in regards to Kim Flowers as a business owner. I am also going to file a complaint with the Nevada Attorney General's office. I would really like to know where I can get my daughter's head shot's developed with her resume on the back...even though I paid the school for them I didn't get them and she is still going for auditions so we need them. I did get the disc from Phelston...who by the way I would highly recommend if you want some professional photo's done, sorry I don't have his number on hand but he is out of Vegas. I know this is rambling on but if anyone is interested in filing a law suit I think time is of the essence.

JRP Chicago has rude staff. They arent even certified to teach. Agents dont even like going there to choose there kids. They go there cause they pay them.

my son was just accepted by jrp and i was to pay 1,950.00. i didnt use a credit card but rather a business cheque because i wanted to check them out on the internet. i have seen more negative comments than good. they seem so ligit, especially when you go to their website. are you sure they are scamming? i have stopped payment to the cheque and figure if they are reputable, they will get back to me about the cheque and if they are scamming, they wont. lol.

my son really wants this, does anyone know how else one can go about helping their child get into the acting field if jrp is not the proper avenue?

I used to work for the John Robert Powers Reno location and I was the Assistant Promotional Director. I was talking to the president of JRP earlier today May, 5th 2008.

The president of JRP was wondering if I could get him the names and numbers of people who paid and never got the chance to complete their classes and keep attending the auditions.

So if anyone out there went through the bad experience of having paid any sort of service in the Reno JRP and then having seen the place be shut down, please email me at:

The president of JRP tells me they want to reopen the Reno location with a good reputation by allowing all those people that felt ripped off to get the chance to complete their classes and continue auditioning!

So let's all cooperate in making this as drama-free as possible as you have the chance to get in the list incase there actually is a reopening.

Thank you for reading.. and hopefully I hear from all the people I need to add to the list.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Keep on keeping on. With something like this, it is the tenacious one who prevails.

I suggest you make contact with the teachers who were equally hurt as well. They can help put you in contact with others who were ripped off. As I posted on my update, it looks as though a class action lawsuit is in the works.

I do have an address and phone number of a place that prints resume's on the back of the headshots. Give me a day or two to dig it up.

Philleston (sp?) is a good fashion photographer, but I am more impressed with Don Sercer Photography. Check out his work on the web. He is based out of Hollywood, but he flew up to Reno and did a shoot for Advance LA Talent. Vance prefers to use his own photographer and it is apparent why. This guy is hot!

Don't let this unfortunate experience daunt you. Justice WILL prevail. It always does. Maybe not in your time frame or mine. But understand ~ people who knowingly go around hurting and ripping people off will get theirs in the end. It is the law of the universe.

I also had a chat with Vic. He told me that JRP will be filing for bankruptcy. That, and they are so broke, that he doubts that they will even be able to afford a bankruptcy lawyer. A load of crap if they can afford his firm.

Vic also told me that Nevada Casting Group would accept the current JRP students and finish their classes. I had a chat with Nevada casting. I was told that there was no such agreement.

Get legal representation quickly, before they file for Bankruptcy. If they do, then you will get nothing back!
