If they ask you to pay up front, no matter if is acting, singing, or modeling then DON'T AGREE TO IT, this is what they did to me and almost got away with it lucky I choose to go to go to college first instead of this so I had more time to research it, DON'T SPEND OVER 1k or 500 dollars to do this!!!! hope this helps

Audition

John Robert Powers - Audition
After 5 minutes of listening to the instructions, the Zoom meeting host kicked me out of the audition without explaining why. I spent a lot of time learning my line and getting prepared. Unprofessional and rude.

Unreal ...... comment from a JRP uneducated teacher who was an untrained teacher there in the 50's.

Can not believe they are still in business.

Loved their makeup. Sorry they did not follow through a great product and still put money into a scamming project.

Attn corporate: I would rethink your business plan. You have a product that works and franchises that do not. Time to close your "model, acting, etc" division and work on a product on one that seems to be working in Asia and bring it back to the country that your brand started from.

Years ago they took my $600. No sign on the building. 5 weeks were spent teaching us to put on makeup a d set tables. They pretended to make commercials & promised pro- spectjve models trips to Paris. Nobody that I knew got to go. They had us walk in a small room on a catwalk. It was over with after 2 months.

My Daughter was in the San Francisco Class, after her 3rd Class she was picked by an agent out of Los Angeles that Paid her Full Cost of John Robert Powers For Life. We had her in some workshops in the City too she was chosen there too, we were always told she had a bright future in Acting and one day we'd see her on the Big Screen, but she has moved on to other things Acting wasn't her cup of Tea it might of been a faze for her as her Cousin's were doing it .

I was probably about 13 or 14 and i entered the jrp world and i was excited i was joining to be a model and learn how to use make up right. Then they had me read a line about pizza and i thought i did okay. Oh you need some practice. So no biggy right. Then they told me modeling was going to be switched to sundays and i was in jrp with my cousin and his was on saturdays. So i decided to join the acting stage. And then they wanted use just for our money. Oh pay for this or pay for that. Wtf . Dont ever go here. Ever they are out for your money

Complete *Scam* don’t let anyone get duped like I was.

I too, was duped... Well, both my mother and I.

Never pay money up front y’all. An “agent” will only get paid when you get gigs, as it were. First, I gave JRP hundreds of dollars just to sign up {They let anyone sign up. BTW.} Which, I understand they need some money to keep the school running.

But it shouldn’t cost that much. My school had to be using that money for something else ‘cause the inside looked horrible. It almost looked like a fixer•upper w/o it being fixed. Second, came the life•time membership.

We thought, ‘Oh sure! Sounds like a good idea. I don’t have any other options here.’ That was about $1,000... I think.

Teachers were teaching things they had no clue or experience in/about. Third classes were never a set time or day. You would just walk in and they’d stick you in wherever most students were. Now comes the IMTA part.

Doesn’t matter when you joined JRP. As long as you’re able or want to pay the fee, they will pitch anything they think you would go for. I payed about $5,000 thinking I’d have a much better chance to be discovered. They picked a horrible headshot and photos for my zed card.

When I got the negatives and looked through them, I found so many other photos that were so much better than the ones they used. Our teacher chaperone told me, *After* coming home, that ‘I probably didn’t get any call backs because my headshot made me look Hispanic and when the agents saw me they didn’t expect me to be some white girl.’ We get home and I still returned to go to classes {As if it would have changed. LTM} Then they tried to get me interested in going to Paris because they knew I’d be perfect there. We said no thanks!

I would have spent way more to go there than I would have in Cali. So many other things I could be pissed about. How much money I put myself into. How hard I worked for it all.

That being said, go look for auditions on your own.

Sometimes even being an extra in a scene they will pay you, keyword *Sometimes* I hope all of this helps anyone. Saving you from being scammed.

THIS IS A SCAM!! April 2017!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Please be aware!!! This is a SCAM!!! We went to the first audition in West Palm Beach they sell the company as a very recognize and serious in the entertainment industry and showed people that supposedly are in recognized networks because of them! Then they said that if they think your child has the potential they will call you for a second audition but THEY CALL EVERYBODY! There's no one on one second audition, that second day they just sell you the package and give you a schedule of the things they'll be teaching in the rehearsals. Personally we sign in our son not to pursue a contract just because we want him to learn and have the experience. The first rehearsal a lot of people showed up, parents were upset because the "coach" was very rude and when I asked my son about what he learned, I went over the schedule with him and he said they didn't do anything, that they were placed in groups to tell each other their monologues and take turns. The "coach" never stand up from the chair to teach them how to act the monologues, and I wonder how are they supposed to learn. Then she gave him (6 year old) an evaluation form to rate her job and of course my son who has no clue what an evaluation is and is not aware of what she's supposed to do in class rate her with a 10 LOL!!! We went to the second rehearsal to give them a 2nd chance, we thought maybe it was too much for the "coach" and she was just not organized so on this second rehearsal 1/2 of the people from the 1st one went. Parents were talking outside and sharing our thoughts and we were afraid that we were BUSTED. I reached out to Vince "the director" who signed the contract with us and nobody responded until I disputed the charge with the credit card. But they finally got out and I didn't get my money back because they responded my claim with lies and of course saying my son rate her with a 10 in the evaluation. People, a took the time to wrote this because I should've listened to the previous review and I wouldn't be in this situation. We couldn't send our son to a different camp because we spent our budget in this. BE AWARE!!! They are located on: 1699 E Woodland Rd. #200 Suite 100 Schamburg, IL

Worked at the Chicago Location- and yea, it's a scam

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I worked at this place as a "Talent Agent". It is absolutely a scam from first hand experience.

We literally would cold call people and tell them their son or daughter must have filled something out at school. Totally made up. If you can pay, you are in, plain and simple. We worked on all commission since it's a revolving door with the turnover, they knew they could get a few weeks of free labor before you quit.

All the reviews saying "it's not an agency! It's a school!". Dude, I worked there, and we were never supposed to be up front about anything.

Lie lie lie, sell sell sell. This place is a joke, avoid like the plague

Can you please contact me at saulein88@***.comI am thinking suing JRP, Chicago. And would need your help if you know anyone that's suing.

Guest

I checked out the wilhelmina site and that female Kelli is the one who was the manager at John Robert Powers in Baltimore who stole my debit card out of my purse when I worked there. Her and her BF at the time Lorne racked up a $400 charge on it before I got Bank of America to cancel it!!!!

Then the next day they coincidentally never came back to work!! It was back in like 2003 or 2004 but it was definitely her!!!!!!!

Guest

I worked there as well and you are absolutely right!!!!

Can you contact me at saulein88@***.com and let me know of anyone you know sued or suing the company and the lawyer they are working with. I got screwed by them and now in need to seek legal action for my refund.

My daughter torn her ligaments and unable to attend the upcoming event in July. And with doctor's note, she can't travel. Even so, they are not refunding me.

On top the changed the date and hotel venue. And this is not what I signed up for.

Ipop

My 5 years old was just picked to go to ipop 2009 LA. I recieved the packet and the cost is $6,200 for her and $3,100 for the parent.

Curious if anyone has taken a 5 year old and if they acheived anything from it? This is alot of money and I'm not sure this is going to be worth it or not.

Hopefully someone out there can give me a little feed back if they had a child go to ipop and if they think it is worth it.

Thank you so much for any comments.

I can assure it is NOT a rip-off and it is worth it. I went and I got 4 callbacks. And 8 year old from my group got every single agent to call him back.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-735952

Of course they will call you back and get "agents" to sign them. That's part II of this process.

Then suddenly your new agent will make you get more head shots, take acting classes, making you use the people they want as they all get a cut of the money; all while you pay thousands of dollars all while not actually booking a job. I'm a member of the Screen Actors Guild, I live and work in Hollywood.

Trust me, anyone legit in the industry would beg you not to attend and save your hard earned money.

Guest

Your local community theatre is the best place for ANY child to start pursuing their dreams and it sure wont cost an arm and a leg. Most community theatres have youth workshops at little to no cost.

Dont worry about the agents for now, let them enjoy being kids, learning theatre and staying close to home. Oh, and Mom and Dad can hang on the those hard earned dollars.

Guest

Parents look around you. we spend a lot of money on useless things like play station, wii, bikes, sports teams, designer clothes, vacations.

So if your child really wants to do this, let them. whether they succeed or not they had the experience and performing in front of people will give them confidence. Oprah said if you learned from it, it's tuition and see it as tuition and if they succeed then its icing on the cake.

My daughter just got called back for ipop and i don't know where to get the money but we will find a way. All I know is that she is having fun and she loves it.

Hi There,

Just curious about how it went with your daughter going to ipop? My son was called back and I was debating on taking him due to money being tight.

I was just wondering if your daughter enjoyed it and if she got anything out of the experience. Thanks!

Guest

Its about making money. If you have money to blow and can't think of a better way to take your child on a vacation, then go iPoop.

If you do the payment plan you don't belong going, no they don't accept food stamps. When you get that call back after the seminar keep in mind they will use your child against your common sense and lay down a well crafted guilt trip. All they want is your money, they will tell you what you want to hear. They will act like they are an agent and tell you "you/your child have extraordinary talent....blablabla".

Just remember that you/your child is the most talented person I have ever seen, agents will take notice the moment you arrive at iPoop and fast tract you right to the studio to offer a 360 deal...after we collect $10K from you. Did i mention our payment plan, no we don't give a discount for having a Win-Dixie card.

I am so sorry this scam is still going on and they screwed you over. I worked for JRP back in the late 90's and of course at the time I had no clue they were not legit until they started using honest folks like me to lure folks in just so we can make *** promises for their kids while the company takes their parents money!

As soon as I found out I quit! It was the shortest job ever; 3 months! Karma is a *** and I hope they eventually close for good! Folks please please please if you see this agency around go the other way!

Unless you have money to throw away just forget about it!

Really! It isnt worth it!

Thank u for this. They were practicing this deception when I worked for them at the age of 18on the late 50's.

At that age I was a teacher of modeling, fencing, social Grace's. This is after first applying for a receptionists job. No training or prior experience in any of these areas. Sorry to hear they have not changed their business practice.

Franchise or not ...

it is the responsibility of corporate to install their "mission statement" into the franchise contracts. Obviously nothing can be done in their overseas franchise but thank u for bringing this to the attention to those in the United States.

I worked in the entertainment industry for over thirty years with years of experience as a talent agent. Not once did I ever hire or have anyone presented to me by John Robert Powers. If you are truly passionate about being an actor go with a reputable agent.

Fake fake...They don't launch careers and they are looking for money. Try talent agencies and make sure the BBB gives a rating. JRP-my rating is NO
